Modern Appalachia: Sarah Siskind and Two Bird Stone

Award-winning singer/songwriter Sarah Siskind and fellow North Carolina Americana group Two Bird Stone bring their original material together for an evening of unforgettable music.  Using the name “Modern Appalachia” to frame the marriage of traditional and progressive takes on the sound of their region, their stories in song span the spectrum from heartfelt ballads to full on electric rock.

"(Sarah Siskind) is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of artist in her delivery, honesty and songwriting."

- No Depression

“(Two Bird Stone) Endearing... both casually off-the-cuff and elegantly sophisticated…something not to be underestimated”

- American Songwriter

Soula at Boca

souls_logo_test.jpg

In lieu of playing with Two Bird Stone to promote our new record, “Hands and Knees”, I will be playing some delightful shows with a fine Covid Outbreak-through-start-up-outlet called, SOULA! The group will feature flautist, Suzanne Williams, harpist, Michael Willis and yours truly on fiddle, banjo and vocals. We will play a set of gorgeous traditional Irish music in a fresh setting we call, “new traditional”.  Among plenty of standards, we will perform several very recent compositions by some of the best tune writers in the genre. I will also be singing the original songs of Two Birds Stone as accompanied beautifully by Michael and Suzanne.

An Evening with Two Bird Stone - Drendel Auditorium at the SALT Block

This unique performance by Liam Bailey & Two Bird Stone will be fueled by the contemporary Americana songwriting of singer Liam Thomas Bailey and the band’s deep appreciation for the traditional fiddle music of Ireland, Scandinavia and the North America.

Two Bird Stone is boldly Americana! They present fresh, accessible song material as performed on instruments including the banjo, fiddle, accordion, mandolin and a stellar rhythm section.  Paying tribute to the many swirling cultures that make up the American identity, Two Bird Stone also carefully incorporates traditional melodies and musical tendencies of cultures abroad to reflect the dimensions of this land’s powerful diversity!

In lieu of the preservation of traditional material in any strict sense, Two Bird Stone likes to function as a lens through which an audience gets a fresh look at the culture of traditional tune sharing and the instruments upon which we would generally hear them played.

Two Bird Stone will be joined by special guest drummer and world percussionist, Rohin Khemani (of “Red Baraat”).

Their first album, “Hands and Knees” will be released in May 2020.
